EPISODE 140: LIFE COACH WENDY AMARA

Let’s get 👏🏽 it 👏🏽 together 👏🏽

This week on the podcast, we have strategic life and business coach Wendy Amara on the show! We all want to become a better version of ourselves and what better way than with an expert, amiright? She has coached thousands of people over the past 12 years into achieving powerful goals. Her results-oriented, no holding back approach, opens up new possibilities and helps her clients stay accountable to producing extraordinary results.

One of Wendy’s strengths is teaching her clients how to manage that overwhelmed feeling, which Paulina related to a lot. She walks us through the process of how she helps her clients achieve measurable results with consistency and action.

Wendy’s 3-step plan:

  1. Gain Clarity. Get 100% clear on what you REALLY want

  2. She will create a map that will help you get from A to B, which will be specific to you

  3. Follow through with the map & she will keep you accountable throughout the process

We also learn what tangible tools we can use to turn our anxiety into action:

  1. You have notice how you’re feeling and make a decision. It’s all about mindset!

  2. Ask yourself what is it that you really want to feel or experience and replace the anxiety with that emotion. She suggests using her *remembering the moment* technique. How it works: You remember the last time you felt courageous, confident, etc. and get your mind to relieve that emotion again. You can chose to replace that anxiety with courage, confidence, etc.

  3. When you wake up in the morning, start by asking yourself, “what are the things that are working in my favor?” Start counting the things that are happening FOR YOU.

Remember mamás, we are habit-forming machines so even if those negative thoughts are still there, things take time and work! Be consistent and stay with it.

EPISODE 121: NUTRITION AS A LIFESTYLE

This week Sylvia Melendez- Klinger, award-winning author and founder of Hispanic Food Communication joins us to talk nutrition. She’s been a dietitian for over 30 years and she shares a lot of great tips and strategies to help us make better and healthier decisions for our babies and toddlers. Since Paulina is out on maternity leave, we have a surprise co-host joining us and stay tuned for a special giveaway announcement at the end of the show If you are an avocado toast kind-of-person, like us, you’re going to love this episode. For our full show notes, visit http://www.supermamaspodcast.com

This week on the show, we welcome Sylvia Melendez-Klinger, MS, RD, LDN, CPT. Sylvia is an award-winning author and founder of Hispanic Food Communications, Inc, a nutrition and food communications consulting company. She’s also a regular contributor to outreach activities on behalf of the Hass Avocado Board and uses her in-depth culinary and cultural expertise to introduce new strategies for wellness to an increasingly health-conscious population.

Sylvia walks us through strategies and tips on how to introduce our toddlers to solid food and how we can create good patterns from an early age to help our children become great eaters. Here are a couple of snippets and tips from the interview:

“Don’t be the clean-up plate mom because that promotes over-eating.”

“the simpler the meal, probably the healthier it will be”

“It’s the combination of foods that makes things powerful”

Tips on how to Introduce your toddler to solid foods

  1. As moms, we need to choose food products that are nutrient dense. Meaning, foods low in sugar and rich in multiple nutrients. Example: Avocados have potassium, fiber, good fats, folate and much more.

  2. Add variety in your child’s meals! Switch things up in their lunch boxes. Having variety makes sure that our child gets a wide selection of nutrients from different foods.

  3. Kids like neutral flavors, soft textures and foods that don’t touch each other. Example: Avocados are very mild tasting and soft at touch. Also, all dips and salad dressings should be packed separately in their lunch boxes.

  4. Always check with your pediatrician first when it’s time to introduce your toddler to solid foods.

  5. We need to be very patient. Start one food at a time consult your pediatrician to avoid allergies.

  6. Serving style! Slices versus mashing makes a huge difference when you serve them to your child. Make it fun for them! Have them mash their own avocados.

  7. Don’t add seasonings, such as sugar and salt. Let your child get familiar with the foods naturally.

Tips on creating healthy habits from the start

  1. Introduce nutrient foods by masking it! Incorporate within soups, dips, spaghetti sauce.

  2. We need to make dinner time peaceful. Don't make a big deal about eating healthy. Set up a good example yourself and you will create a good relationship from day one.

  3. Be creative with your recipes and have your kids join you in the kitchen.
